The WaterFront Center Invites You To Witness Historic Oyster Dredge IDA MAY Return to Oyster Bay
Oyster Bay, NY: Wednesday, May 3rd at 10 am in Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park Boat Ramps, join The WaterFront Center, IDA MAY Project, and our maritime community to celebrate and witness the launching of the Oyster Dredge IDA MAY. This historic vessel was the first powered oyster dredge built and operated by Frank M. Flowers Oyster Company from 1925 until 2003.

This past summer, we had a lot of fun at our Junior Summer Programs! Was your child a part of our summer of adventure? Oyster Bay Harbor is at the heart of all our Junior Summer Programs, which include beginner sailing lessons, races, marine science explorations, scavenger hunts, and environmental stewardship.

Connecting Our Community With CHRISTEEN
On June 29th, The WaterFront Center (WFC) was pleased to host special guests from other local non-profits such as the Lions of Oyster Bay, First Presbyterian Church, and Life Enrichment Center for our inaugural Connection Cruise. The Connection Cruise was an idea spurred by The WaterFront Center board members when they were thinking about the best way to let our community know about all the wonderful activities The WaterFront Center hosts!

Spring Break Science Week Breakdown
While school is out Spring Break Science Week is in at The WaterFront Center, so sign up your child for a week of science activities during April recess! The beach is the perfect place for your child to take a break from the classroom this spring. Each day of our Spring Break Science Week, for grades 1st - 3rd, will feature a new theme! Children will explore marine life; participate in scavenger hunts along our beaches; perform scientific experiments; and create wind turbines and other marine science and STEM activities. This the Summer, our Marine Explorers get to explore our bay from CHRISTEEN, a 138-year-old, 60-foot gaff-rigged sloop, the oldest oyster sloop in America. This floating classroom educates around 5,000 people every year. Our Marine Explorers will discover the complex environment that makes up the Oyster Bay Wildlife Refuge to connect classroom learning to real-life situations.

Taking Classes in The Winter = More Sailing In The Summer!
Learn why to sign up for Beginner Keelboat Winter Prep track. This program consists of four 4-Hour sessions, two classroom-based sessions in the winter at The WaterFront Center, and two on-water sessions in the spring on a Sonar with a certified instructor. This course is perfect for those who have little to no experience sailing, who want to gain confidence and knowledge in the classroom before they hop aboard the real thing.
Why You Need an NYS Boating Safety Certificate!
Under "Brianna's Law," New York State requires all motorboat operators, regardless of age will need a boating safety certificate beginning in 2025. The WaterFront Center offers an NYS Boating Safety Certificate course that will meet these requirements. Please check the NYS website if you were born after January 1st, 1978, as you may be required to have a boating safety certificate before 2025.
