It takes a dedicated community to keep The WaterFront Center running smoothly! Join us for our Volunteer Days and help maintain our boats and equipment so we can continue providing access to the water for all.
Upcoming Volunteer Days:
Christeen Prep Week (April) – Help prepare our historic oyster sloop for the season.
Memorial Day – Give back while honoring those who served.

Become a CHRISTEEN and IDA MAY Crew!
The WaterFront Center has developed a growing community of dedicated and energetic volunteers who best exemplify our goal of building a community of stewards ensuring that Oyster Bay will be an available resource for future generations.
Though CHRISTEEN was first built in 1883, it was through the work of volunteers that the ship was restored, modified, and continuously maintained to shepherd students and passengers on education programs in Oyster Bay. Their commitment to our flagship and our organization has earned them the name of The 1883 Society.
Similarly, the IDA MAY, a replica of one of the first engine-powered oyster dredges, was built through the dedication of volunteers, professional shipwrights, and marine engineers. After 12 years of craftsmanship and over 33,000 volunteer hours, IDA MAY now serve as a classroom on the water, carrying on the maritime heritage of Oyster Bay.

Please note that all volunteers will be subject to a general background check and search by the National Sex Offender Registry. Also, if you are helping on Christeen or Ida May sails, junior program, or learn to sail program, you will be required to take the US Safe Sport certification.
