The first LOG was created in 2004 with the intention of conveying all the exciting happenings we were doing at the WFC. At that time our programs were only 3 years old! We wanted the general public and our donors to have an understanding of how inspiring our summer programs were that combined sailing, science, and all things fun on the water. The LOG reflects the enthusiasm of program participants, which is powerfully expressed by the inclusion of content created by children. We hope that by including articles about the estuary and other useful information, we would provide a service to our supporters while educating them about what we do as well as what we teach. Throughout the LOG, we hoped the underlying message would be an appreciation of our estuary leading to stewardship of the environment.
Including advertising and sponsorships is a way to raise funds on an annual basis to support the programs we described in the book. As a young non-profit, we needed to find a niche product for fundraising that didn't require too much volunteer support or financial downpayment as benefits normally require. By publishing 2,500 to 5,000 copies each year, and distributing the book to program participants, donors, school and scout groups, teachers, renters, etc, we hoped to spread the word and provide exposure for our advertisers.
The 2022 LOG is our 18th annual edition! This year we raised over $50,000 to support programs and make them affordable, fulfilling our mission of connecting people to the water through education and recreation. Play, Learn, Care!
