Week 6 flew by! First Mates (Gr 5 & 6) learned all about snorkeling then practiced out in the bay! While snorkeling, they collected different creatures, seaweed, and shells to create their own ecosystem! The Bay Buccaneers (Gr 1 & 2) had a whole week of crustaceans! They learned about true crabs such as Rock Crabs, Spider Crabs, and Asian Shore Crabs, as well as "fake" crabs such as horseshoe crabs and hermit crabs and what makes them different! Sound Swashbucklers (Gr 3 & 4) sniggled, which is when you catch baby eels; they caught around 15, with the biggest being 10 inches! Our sailors took week 6 in stride with light wind. Anybody can sail in heavy wind, but it takes a skilled sailor to sail in light wind. They learned skills and techniques that will help them get around while sailing. Our Opti Race team (ages 8 –15) was busy practicing their starts and getting ready for two regattas this week, the Ice Cream Cup Regatta and the JSA (Junior Sailing Association) LIS (Long Island Sound) Opti Championship. Opti beginners (ages 8 – 12) were all very brave while doing their capsize recovery drills. Adventure sailors were able to rig their boats successfully by themselves at the end of the week. Opti intermediate (age 8 – 12) delved into the world of racing as they prepared all week for a Friday practice regatta. C420 beginners (ages 12 – 17) worked on their weight distribution, and C420 intermediate (ages 12 – 17) perfected their roll tacks!

With only two more weeks to go, we're starting to think about our fall programs! Check back after week 8 for fall class announcements!
