Week 5 Youth Summer
We are past our halfway mark and onto the other side of our Youth Summer Program! Our Opti Beginners (age 8 -12) were able to adequately control their boat in heavy wind. The adventure sailors sailed over to brickyard point while familiarizing themselves with the boating rights of way. C420 Beginners (age 13 -18) showed their skills on the windy days by rigging their sail upwind and properly depowering in the heavy wind. Bay Buccaneers (grades K-2) explored the day in the life of penguins by having an egg relay. Sound Swashbucklers (grades 3 & 4) started their week out learning about horseshoe crabs (they've been around for over 350 million years!) and their importance in our society. First Mates (grades 5 & 6) went on Oyster Sloop CHRISTEEN and learned what it takes to raise the sail and captain the boat! Our science exploration groups ended the week by handing out paper plate awards!
While summer turns the corner, we're looking ahead to afterschool programs in the fall. Stay tuned for announcements on fall youth sailing!
We still have spots left in our science explorations classes for your children!
