WFC 2022 LOG Art & Writing Contest

Calling All Artists and Writers!

The WaterFront Center is excited to announce our new 2022 LOG Art Contest! Adults and children are encouraged to submit artwork or written expressions of their experiences at The WaterFront Center.

There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, and a random draw! Artistic submissions should be 8 ½ x 11’ LANDSCAPE and may be made with crayons, markers, colored pencils, paint or mixed media. Literary submissions may be poems or stories, but not longer than 300 words. Each participant is allowed 3 different submissions, which will be entered into the contest separately. Adults (18+) and children’s (5 – 17) artwork will be separated into two categories to be judged.


Submissions may be featured in the 2022 LOG, a free booklet given out to thousands of visitors and program participants at The WaterFront Center! Winners are not guaranteed to have their art placed in the LOG. Those who are featured in the LOG are not guaranteed a prize. Submissions (not folded) can be brought to or sent to:

Please include an entry form with your submission found HERE
If you cannot submit a physical copy, artwork can be scanned as a 300 dpi JPG and emailed to Shannon@thewaterfrontcenter.org.

Prizes for each category:  

1st Place: WFC Gift Card $75 

2nd Place: WFC Gift Card $50 

3rd Place: WFC Gift Card $25 

Random Draw Prize:

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Friday, January 30th, 2021

Winners will be announced Monday, Feb 7th, 2022


PROMPTS for what to draw or write about:  

  1. What was your favorite activity that you did over the summer at The WaterFront Center?  

  2. Was there something you were nervous about trying at first but was fun in the end? 

  3. What was the coolest fact that you learned at The WaterFront Center? 

  4. What was your favorite creature that you got to see at a touch tank? 

  5. What activity do you want to try next summer at The WaterFront Center? 

  6. What is an activity that you would like to do again? 

  7. Sketch the last kayak rental, tour, or cruise you went on. 

  8. Paint a landscape from your last time aboard the CHRISTEEN.  

  9. Draw a memory from your first Sailing Lesson 

  10. Sketch some animals that you saw during your first-time sniggling or seining. 

  11. Draw your favorite type of Sailboat at The WaterFront Center.  

  12. Paint or draw a portrait of CHRISTEEN our historic oyster sloop!

Shannon Kelly

Shannon grew up in Oyster Bay and received a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in creative writing from Binghamton University in 2019. She has been working for The Waterfront Center for 6 years in various positions from Educator to Communications Coordinator. During her time at The WaterFront Center, she has taught over 500 children of all ages from various school around Long Island and New York City about marine, environmental, and biological sciences. When she was younger she loved going sailing with her father and has continued her education in sailing here with us at The Waterfront Center. Her passions include reading, writing, filming, being on the water, and rugby.
