As September starts to sweep away the summer days fall brings about new change. Here are new programs and hours we offer in September.

Paddle Rentals

Rent a Single Kayak, Double Kayak, or Stand Up Paddle and explore along the coast of West Harbor in Oyster Bay!

Paddle Classes

Kayak Wildlife Refuge Tour

Join a WaterFront Center Educator on the water for a 90-minute paddle excursion in Oyster Bay harbor exploring the nature of the wildlife refuge.

Weekdays at 10 am and 3 pm.

Paddle Fitness

Take your workout to the water! Mix up your gym routine with our new 90-minute Intro to Paddle Fitness Class that will get your heart rate up and build strength while paddling through Oyster Bay! This instructor-driven class blends core stability, resistance cardio, and bodyweight exercises on top of a stand-up paddleboard (SUP).

Weekdays at 1 pm.

Kayak Conservation Cruise

Celebrate the different seasons of Oyster bay and all the flora and fauna that they bring with a cruise guided by Friends of the Bay and The WaterFront Center. Visit various kayaking locations around Oyster Bay including, West Harbor, Mill Neck Creek, and Cold Spring Harbor.

Proceeds from this event will support both organizations in their endeavors to educate the public and build a community of stewards to protect these natural resources.

Kayak conservation cruise is going out of Bayville west harbor beach

September 25th, 9:00 am - 10 am; launching from 10 West Harbor Drive, Bayville, NY 11709.

Sailboat Rentals

Sail one of our 23ft sonars, Hobie Wave, or Getaway in West Harbor out of our own mooring field! You must have passed a safety sail with one of our instructors to rent any of our sailboats.

Sail into the end of summer with a Harbor Tour or Sunset Cruise on National Historic Landmark Christeen! Any local or visitor will tell you to take a cruise on the oldest Oyster Sloop in America, CHRISTEEN! Come aboard, see the sights, and take a two-hour sail around Oyster Bay and learn about the unique history, wildlife, and beauty of our slice of the Golden Coast!

September Harbor Tours Dates: Saturday 11th 10 am (9 spots) , 2 pm (6 spots); Sunday 12th 10 am (16 spots), 2pm (18 spots); Sat 18th 10am (18 spots); Sunday 19th 10am (18 spots), Sunday 26th 10am (18 spots), 2pm (18 spots).

Shannon Kelly

Shannon grew up in Oyster Bay and received a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in creative writing from Binghamton University in 2019. She has been working for The Waterfront Center for 6 years in various positions from Educator to Communications Coordinator. During her time at The WaterFront Center, she has taught over 500 children of all ages from various school around Long Island and New York City about marine, environmental, and biological sciences. When she was younger she loved going sailing with her father and has continued her education in sailing here with us at The Waterfront Center. Her passions include reading, writing, filming, being on the water, and rugby.
