This past Sunday, September 12th, The WaterFront Center hosted the 2021 New York State Optimist Championship. There were around 50 Optis out on the water all sailing their finest! The Harbor start was at 10:45 am; everyone launched from either Beekman beach next to The WaterFront Center or Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club and headed out to Cold Spring Harbor for check-in at the Race Committee Boat. The first race started at 11:55 am. The breeze was primarily a westerly around 10kts with fairly consistent oscillations, making for a beautiful day of racing. The sailors completed 6 races throughout the day on two different courses, the first being an Optimist trapezoid, and the next being a modified outer trapezoid with a gate.

Congratulations to everyone who raced, you all did a fantastic job! Thank you so much to Willets Meyer, Priscilla Constants who served as Principal Race Officers as well as Seawanhaka Yacht Club, Larry Kennedy, WFC volunteers, parents, and coaches! Everyone’s help made for a wonderful day of sailing!
