Marine Explorers

Bay Buccaneers

Bay Buccaneers enjoyed sailing on the Christeen, where they dredged and performed water quality tests. They made coral reef crafts and jumped off the dock and the Mothership!

First Mates

At the beginning of the week, the first mates went on the Mothership to practice their teamwork skills. To learn about how scientists explore the bottom of the ocean, they learned about ROVs, built their own, and tested buoyancy using pool noodles.

Youth Sailing

Lil’ Puffs

Lil Puffs had fun last week on the sonars with their Sailing Instructors! Throughout the week, they helped their instructors rig the boat, giving them a better understanding of how the sailboat works. They all got time on the tiller to practice their skipping skills!

Opti Beginners

The Opti Beginners learned how to rig their boats and became pros by the end of the week. The sailors strengthened their knowledge of the points of sail and worked on getting out of irons when their boats got stuck!

Opti Race Team

Opti Race Team practiced their racing all week and is preparing to transition into the fall! They worked on their racing techniques and fixed any issues that needed attention. NYS Opti Champs is this fall!

C420 Intermediate

Intermediate sailors practiced their racing skills to prepare for fall sailing, which will allow them to progress to the race team or join our high school sailing team. They worked on various aspects of racing, such as rounding marks and getting off the line fast. It was a successful week.

Adventure Sailing

This week, Adventure Sailing fully embraced sailing! Setting off from The WaterFront Center, they were brimming with excitement to put their sailing skills to the test. Each of them took turns skippering the boat and had an absolute blast.

C420 Beginner

All of our beginners were excited to head out on the water for their last week of sailing! They practiced swapping skippering and crew roles to improve in both areas. It's important to practice both roles as it allows for a more well-rounded sailing experience and education.

C420 Race Team

The team participated in trapeze training this week to practice their skills and stability during difficult maneuvers. They enjoyed their time on the trapeze, having a lot of fun. They are all excited to head into fall for High School Sailing!
