Sailing Alone Around the World - by Captain Joshua Slocum

Anyone who has sailed aboard Christeen with Captain Pete will certainly remember him continuously recommending this book. This depiction of the first solo voyage around the world is an enthralling tale aboard a boat very similar to our flagship oyster sloop!

Kon-Tiki ekspedisjonen - by Thor Heyerdahl.

Known in English as The Kon-Tiki Expedition: By Raft Across the South Seas, this book details the expedition, lead by Heyerdahl himself, to prove his anthropological theory that inhabitants of the Easter Islands came from pre-Columbian Peru rather than Polynesia. Though the 1950 Academy Award-winning documentary and the 2012 dramatization have popularized this story, the book details the technical information that sailors will find fascinating!

The Proving Ground - by Bruce Knecht

The 1998 Sydney Hobart Race started with one-hundred and fifteen boats started and only 43 made it to the finish line. Those with a thrill for racing will get a kick out of this detailed account of what is hailed as "worst modern sailing disaster since the 1979 Fastnet Race."

Fifty Places to Sail Before You Die - by Chris Santella

If you have not been able to go sailing as much as you would have liked to in 2020, then you probably have been working on your bucket list of places to visit! From island retreats to harrowing passages like Cape Horn, this book maps out the best sailing destinations around the world with accounts from some of the greatest sailors to ever live!

The Log from the Sea of Cortez - by John Steinbeck

Steinbeck might be more well-known for his works of fiction like "Of Mice and Men" or "The Grapes of Wrath" but sailors with an appreciation for nature might be more interested in "The Log from the Sea of Cortez." On a six-week expedition to collect marine specimens off the coast of California, Steinbeck journals his experiences with marine biologist and friend, Ed Ricketts.

One man, one boat, one word: Kihivas—The Challenge. More people have climbed Mount Everest or traveled into space than made the circumnavigation around the globe alone. Get a glimpse of the struggles and thrills that only fewer than 300 sailors have experienced as you follow Istvan Kopar as he set out to realize this life long dream of sailing around the world alone!
