Welcome Aboard John Brendel
The WaterFront Center has an ever-growing loyal community of sailors, students, instructors and supporters. It is always a special occasion when one of our own alumni grows up and decides to give back to the community that brought them closer to the water. With open arms, we welcome John Brendel as the new Waterfront Coordinator.
John grew up in Huntington, Long Island. He has spent much of his life engaging in water activities on and in Long Island waters. As a result, John is an accomplished surfer, sailor, and standup paddle boarder. He has made it his mission to share his passion and expertise for these activities with others and also integrate them into his career pursuits.
John was a participant at the waterfront center before becoming a part of the staff. It all started with the 420-racing summer program, after that, he was hooked on sailing competitively. He was a member and captain of his high school sailing team and member of The WaterFront Center’s big boat racing team during the summers.
John began working at The WaterFront Center last year as a sailing instructor, teaching sailing for a full range of students both in age and ability. This summer he was responsible for The WaterFront Center’s satellite sailing program at the Lloyd Harbor Bath Club. John also enjoys teaches paddle boarding when the opportunity arises as he holds a paddle board certification as well.
John looks forward to sharing his love for the water, his respect for The WaterFront Center, and its unique programs to anyone who wishes to take advantage of all the waterfront has to offer! You will now find John overseeing the on-water safety for all renters and assisting with the maintenance of WFC equipment. He is a strong employee with a wide variety of experience and we are happy to bring him to the team full-time.
