Opti Prep

Sailors who have completed Opti Basic refine their skills and are introduced to new concepts including racing and advanced boat-handling. This class is designed to prepare young sailors for competition and the WFC Race Team. Each sailor may enroll in multiple sessions until they are ready to join the WaterFront Opti Race Team (WORT). Prerequisite: Swim Check & Capsize Drill*; Opti Basics and Instructor Recommendation Skill level: Intermediate Boat type: This class is taught in 8-foot Optimist dinghies with instructors alongside in powerboats. Recommended sailor weight range: 50-110 lbs What's next?: Enroll in multiple sessions of Opti Intermediate until ready for WFC Race Team. Spring, Summer and Fall sessions available. *Sailors must demonstrate comfort swimming in Oyster Bay without a lifejacket. Instructors will train students how to recover from a capsize (when the boat tips over.) Swim checks and capsize drills are performed on the first day of the program alongside WFC docks.
