Christeen, a 40-foot gaff rigged sloop, is the oldest oyster sloop in America and a National Historic Landmark. She was originally built in 1883 for Captain William Smith in Glenwood Landing, New York for the purpose of harvesting oysters in Oyster Bay and Cold Spring Harbor. Over her 125 years, Christeen served not only as an oyster dredge but also as a cargo carrier and live-aboard between Connecticut, New York and New Jersey. More information on Chartering the Christeen J/105: Andiamo The concept behind the J/105 was to produce boats that are fast, strong, fun and easy to sail while racing in One Design fleets or cruising with sails furled and swim ladder swung off the transom.The large cockpit of the J/105 makes it extremely comfortable and the simplicity of the layout makes it manageable for two or three experienced sailors to take the boat on their own in most conditions. Accommodations for an overnight cruise are appropriate for up to four adults with a small galley and sitting area. The inside is nicely finished with a full galley and table with seating for up to six (6) people. The comfortable interior and ample deck space is ideal for families with children and adults looking to create their own weekend get-away from the noise and crowds of the city. Accommodations can be made on your own or through the WaterFront Center to pick up a mooring in Northport or other neighboring harbors.
