The WaterFront Center offers sailing, marine discovery, swimming and adventure-based programs for children and teens, as well as camp and youth organizations, during the summer months. Fun and experiential learning are the top priorities within a safe and well-organized structure, incorporating low student to teacher ratios and top quality programming. All sailing instructors are certified by the U.S. Sailing Association and have received CPR and First Aid training. |

Dinghy Clinics
Our dinghy clinics are designed to accommodate new and experienced sailors from grade 3 through 12. Participants are grouped by age and experience and programs are offered for half or full day as well as evening and different times throughout the season into the fall.

Teen Tall Ship Training
The WaterFront Center, working in partnership with the tall ship Unicorn, is proud to once again offer area teens the opportunity to live and work aboard a tall ship for a week this summer.

Bay Buccaneers (grades 1 and 2)
Girls and boys entering grades 1 and 2. Come join the adventures of a Buccaneer at the WaterFront Center. Through these science-based programs, children discover the marine environment through a variety of hands-on, participatory activities including sailing on Christeen, performing science experiments, playing games, creating arts and crafts, listening to stories, collecting and identifying local marine inhabitants with seine and dip nets, exploring the beach and marsh area habitats, and swimming under the supervision of a certified lifeguard/Water Safety instructor. Sound Swashbucklers may also participate in fishing off the pier and kayaking.

Sound Swashbucklers (grades 3 and 4)

First Mates (grades 5 and 6)
For Girls and boys entering grades 5 and 6 (of all sailing abilities) Send your child for an exciting two-week program that combines learning to sail and marine discovery.

Skippers (grades 7, 8 and 9)
Girls and boys entering grades 7, 8 and 9 (of all sailing abilities) Skippers spend their mornings honing their sailing skills and their afternoons exploring the unique estuary habitat of beautiful Oyster Bay.

Survivors (grades 7, 8 and 9)
Girls and boys entering grades 7, 8 and 9. Live out the week-long adventure as if you were truly a survivor stranded on an island! Participants learn skills necessary for survival such as purifying water, building shelter, making fishing poles and collecting nets, and making a solar cooker and a solar shower. Activities include scavenger hunts, adventure challenges, and other games which foster problem solving skills, cooperation, and team work. In addition, participants plan an “escape” from an island using a raft made from items they have found along the beach.

Junior Keelboat
Join together with two to four friends for five half-days of hands-on sailing lessons with an instructor on a comfortable 19’ or 23’ sailboat. This informal, non-certification program is based on the US Sailing Basic Keelboat curriculum and can be customized to meet individual or group goals. Students learn how to rig the boat, trim sails and steer, wind awareness, safety and emergency procedures, and how to leave from and return to a mooring. Have fun and learn an exciting new sport on the scenic waters of Oyster Bay!
